Why a Heritage Log Home?
Heritage Log Homes incorporates an engineering innovation into the process of building a log home. While their idea is not new, it was difficult to incorporate into existing systems. Heritage Log Homes Thru-Bolting system has overcome hurdles of lining up pre-drilled holes in logs, which allows them to run continuous threaded bolts through the entire wall. This eliminates the need to pound several 8" to 12" stakes into every log. This Thru-Bolting system improves structural strength and helps maintain uniform settling over the entire log wall system.
Backed by independent research, Heritage Log Homes studies have proven that no other fastening system provides the settlement control, strength and ease of construction the Thru-Bolting process achieves.
Heritage Log Homes has invested the time and effort necessary to ensure that their pre-cut packages go together like clockwork. With their system, your dream of a beautiful log home will become a reality.
Energy Efficient
A study conducted by the National Bureau of Standards and the U.S. Department of Energy found that log homes are about 30% more energy efficient than wood frame homes with an insulation value 20% higher than the log home.
Their test was conducted near Washington D.C. over a 28 week period by building 6 20'x20' buildings where the only difference between the buildings was the wall materials used. One of the buildings was a wood frame house with 5/8" exterior wood siding, 2" x 4" stud wall, 3 1/2" fiberglass insulation, plastic vapor barrier, and 1/2" gypsum dry wall, giving the walls a nominal rating of R-12. The log home was built with 7" solid wood logs with no additional insulation, no vapor barrier, and no interior dry wall. This wall had an R-value of 10.
The reason the log building was 30% more efficient than the "traditional" wood frame building was that "thermal mass is a very important factor in energy efficiency. Simply put the greater the thermal mass of a wall, the longer it takes for cold temperatures to work their way through the wall. By their very nature, logs have very high thermal mass making log homes more energy efficient. To improve the efficiency of their log homes, Heritage Log Homes uses their patented double-tongue and groove joining system, that interlocks adjoining logs along their entire length.
